Thought for the Day Programme Observed at N.S.S. Training College, Ottapalam
Theme: International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction – “Preparedness Today Saves Lives Tomorrow”
N.S.S. Training College, Ottapalam, organised a Thought for the Day programme on 13 October 2026 at 9:30 a.m. at the General Hall, in connection with the International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction. The programme was organised by the B.Ed. First Year English students with the aim of creating awareness about disaster preparedness, safety, and the importance of collective responsibility in reducing disaster risks.
The programme began with a prayer and Acharyavandanam presented by Sneha M., Vipin K. V., and Ardhra M., invoking blessings and creating a solemn atmosphere. The programme was compered by Anitta, who coordinated the various activities and ensured the smooth conduct of the session.
The central highlight of the programme was the thought for the day: “Preparedness today saves lives tomorrow.” The thought conveyed a powerful message about the importance of being prepared for unexpected disasters and emergencies. It emphasised that awareness, timely action, proper planning, and responsible behaviour can help protect lives and minimise damage to property and the environment. The thought for the day was presented by Rabeea and Mamatha, who highlighted the significance of disaster preparedness in our daily lives.
The programme was organised in connection with the International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction, observed annually on 13 October. The day reminds us of the need to understand disaster risks and take preventive measures to build safer and more resilient communities. Natural hazards and other emergencies can have serious consequences, but awareness, preparedness, and cooperation can help reduce their impact. As future teachers, B.Ed. students have an important role in educating learners about safety measures, emergency responses, environmental responsibility, and the importance of helping others during challenging situations.
The programme served as a meaningful opportunity for students to reflect on the value of preparedness and the role of education in creating a disaster-aware society. It reinforced the idea that disaster management is not merely the responsibility of authorities but a shared responsibility that begins with individual awareness and community participation.
The session concluded with the National Anthem, marking the end of the programme on a note of unity and collective responsibility. The programme was conducted under the guidance of the Teacher Co-ordinator, Ms. Abhirami K. R., and the Principal-in-Charge, Prof. (Dr.) Suresh Kumar K.
Overall, the Thought for the Day programme was an informative and thought-provoking initiative that encouraged students to recognise the importance of disaster preparedness and responsible citizenship. It left everyone with a valuable reminder that being prepared today is an essential step towards building a safer tomorrow.
