Report on the Thought for the Day Programme

The B.Ed Malayalam Optional students of NSS Training College, Ottapalam, organized a thoughtful programme titled "Thought for the Day" on 12th August 2025 at 9:30 a.m. in the General Hall. The theme of the programme was :

Ragging doesn’t break the ice, it breaks lives.

The programme commenced with a solemn Prayer and Acharyavandanam, led by Namitha. C and Upasana U, invoking an atmosphere of reverence and dignity. Varsha G S, effectively compered the session.

The theme presentation was delivered in two parts:

Praveena A P, addressed the audience on the social impact of ragging, drawing attention to various cases reported in Kerala. She emphasized how ragging continues to be a grave social issue, affecting students’ academic lives, mental health, and interpersonal relationships.

Niveditha K V, focused on the legal framework against ragging, explaining the legal remedies available to students. She highlighted relevant IPC sections and anti-ragging regulations, stressing the accountability of institutions and the legal consequences for offenders. Her session provided a strong awareness about the preventive and corrective measures embedded in law. The event concluded with the National Anthem.


The programme was coordinated under the guidance of Prof. (Dr.) Seema Menon K.P., Teacher-in-charge, and supported by Prof. (Dr.) Smitha R, Principal-in-charge, whose leadership and encouragement ensured the success of the event.

By addressing ragging from both social and legal perspectives, the session highlighted the urgent need to cultivate campuses that promote safety, empathy, and respect. The message "ragging does not create bonds, but destroys lives" resonated deeply with the participants, reaffirming the institution’s commitment to building an inclusive and responsible academic culture.
